Los Alamos High School sophomore Michael Aslam, will formally be presented his rank of Eagle Scout March 2, at an award ceremony, at the Historic Fuller Lodge.

Aslam along with members of Troop 122 worked to construct raised planter beds for the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

“I came up with this idea while meeting with the volunteer leader at the Senior Center,” Aslam said. “We discussed different things that were needed for the seniors that we could possibly build and the garden planters seemed like a good idea.”

The students and adults, along with help from local contractor, Alec Casperson of ADC Builders, created the planters.

“These four raised planters will bring joy to our senior gardeners and anyone who comes to our Day Out patio,” LARSO Executive Director Pauline Powell Schneider said. “They are a perfect height for our participants to plant and pick.”

Schneider says plans are already in the making to have a berry garden with raspberries, blueberries and strawberries and many, many tomatoes.

Aslam graciously thanked his fellow Scouts as well as adults from the community who helped him to achieve this goal.

“I would like to especially thank Mr. Alec Casperson and ADC builders for allowing our group to use his shop in order to build the planters,” Aslam said. “I would also like to thank Metzger’s and Los Alamos Home Improvement for their very generous donations of lumber and supplies.”
