METZGER’S News:

Metzger’s Hardware owner Greg Metzger has announced that a major investment in the company’s White Rock location will take place this winter.

The project, which was originally scheduled for this spring before being delayed by COVID-19, will include the installation of a new roof over the building; removal of the center wall separating the paint and lawn and garden departments from the rest of the store – creating one large, open, selling space; removing the ceilings to create an open ceiling in the building, as well as adding a new, energy efficient LED lighting system; replacing the HVAC system throughout the building; and remodeling the store restrooms to meet ADA standards.

The project also will include replacing the protective bollards surrounding the propane refill area to allow for the removal of the concrete “jersey” barriers that surround the existing tank.

This project, which represents an investment of well over half a million dollars, is Metzger’s second in White Rock, after removal of the gasoline infrastructure and replacing the parking lot and adding landscaping several years ago. It also sets the stage for a third phase, which is already in the planning stages. The third, and final phase will include a Do it Best Signature store design, with new fixtures and store layout of the interior of the building, as well as a new façade on the exterior. That work is expected to begin within the next 18 to 24 months.

Metzger’s General Manager David Jolly said the current phase of work is expected to begin within the next couple of weeks, and be completed by spring, allowing most of the interior work to take place during the slower winter months.

“We apologize in advance for the dust and disruption, but we’re excited to see the results come spring,  Jolly said.

Greg Metzger added: “We have enjoyed tremendous support from our neighbors in both Los Alamos and White Rock, and this represents our log-term commitment to the community. Metzger’s has a long history as a local business, and we’re also excited about our future!”
