COMMUNITY News:

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Guaje Pines Cemetery, hosted by the Knights of Columbus #3137.

The event will feature Color Guards furnished by the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Donald A. Larson Assembly 0688, American Legion Post 90, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 90, Sons of The American Legion Squadron 90, American Legion Riders Post 90, Chapter 19 Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874 and its auxilary group, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Lodge #2083, Military Order of the World Wars Chapter 229 Pajarito Lodge #66, A.F. & A.M. Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America and Los Alamos High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC).

Los Alamos High School NJROTC will conduct the opening salute and Sir Knight Martin Aguilera, DGK, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Assembly 0688, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Aguilera will provide the welcome and introduction speech.

Other speakers include Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Capt. USMC (former) Father Glenn Jones, House Dist. 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard and County Councilor James Chrobocinski. The guest of honor is Col. Pryor “Doc” Dougherty (Retired), USAR. 

Additionally, Los Alamos High School NJROTC will peform the March of Colors and will conduct the flag raising. Sir Knight Tony Colletti, Past Faithful Navigator, will perform the “The Star Spangled Banner” and Boy and Girl Scouts of America will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. 

Nathan Salazar will perform “America the Beautiful” and Ethan Aulews will perform “Amazing Grace”. Randi Moore of the American Legion Post 90 will play “Taps”.

After the ceremony, everyone is invited to eat lunch prepared by the ladies auxiliary at the Knights of Columbus.
