Memorial Day At Santa Fe National Cemetery

According to a history included in this morning’s Memorial Day ceremonies, the Santa Fe National Cemetery has grown from 1/3 acre at the close of the Civil War when it was established to bury the remains of Union soldiers who died within the territory of New Mexico. Today, the Santa Fe National Cemetery is comprised of approximately 78 developed acres with more than 50,000 burials. In Fiscal Year 2014, the Cemetery conducted 1,734 interments.
