Come meet and watch renown Hopi katsina carver Elmer Yungotsuna at Millicent Rogers Museum, 1504 Millicent Rogers Road in El Prado.
Yungotsuna will be demonstrating katsina carving and talking to visitors in the museum’s galleries 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 23; Sunday, May 24 and Monday (Memorial Day).

Yungotsuna was born on the Hopi reservation in the Tewa village of Hano on First Mesa and is a member of the Spider Clan. He has been carving katsinas for 22 years and has shown his work and won awards at Indian art shows across the country.
Katsina carvings by Elmer Yungotsuna. Courtesy/MRMWhen the National Museum of the American Indian opened in Washington, D.C. in 2004, Yungotsuna was chosen to be one of the featured artists. He has made many pieces on commission including a Great Horned Owl he carved for the Emperor of Japan.
“Elmer has great stories to tell and is a lot of fun,” Museum Store Manager Nancy Colvert said. “We are honored to have him demonstrating at the museum and know you will enjoy meeting him. We will also have Elmer’s work for sale, of course, as part of the store’s mission to support living Southwestern artists.”
