Flag Day is officially observed June 14. Though not an official national holiday, it commemorates the adoption of the Flag of the United States on this day in 1777 by Resolution of the Second Continental Congress. President Woodrow Wilson issued a Proclamation in 1916 asking that June 14 be set aside as Flag Day. In August of 1949, a National Flag Day was officially established by Congress.
