Maria Elena Alvarez And Dr. Mark Unverzagt Join New Mexico Health Connections Board Of Directors

ALBUQUERQUE  New Mexico Health Connections announced that Maria Elena Alvarez, MA, LMHC and Dr. Mark Unverzagt have been elected to serve on the organization’s Board of Directors.
 
Both join the New Mexico Health Connections team with strong backgrounds in New Mexico healthcare.
 
Alvarez had a long career in journalism, which included Managing Editor of Hispanic Magazine, a national monthly, Arts Editor and Editorial Board member at the Albuquerque Journal and publisher of Prime Time Monthly News.
 
Following her journalism career, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from New Mexico Highlands University and has since been a practicing therapist working with children and adolescents in public and charter schools. She also is among the therapists at ABQ Psychiatry & Psychology, one of the city’s oldest groups of behavioral health providers.
 
Dr. Mark Unverzagt
 
Dr. Unverzagt is the owner and sole provider for Medicine @ Downtown, an innovative primary care practice. Prior to starting this practice, he was an associate professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He holds an undergraduate degree from Tulane University and a medical degree from the University of Virginia. He has also worked as a solo practitioner in rural New Mexico in one of the most remote community health centers in the United States.
