MPNHP Los Alamos Site Manager Tom Smith

Tom Smith has accepted the Manhattan Project National Historical Park (MPNHP) Los Alamos site manager position. As another milestone for the park, Smith will be the first permanent site manager at Los Alamos. He brings a variety of experiences and skills to the park and begins his new position mid-September.
Smith is making his return to the National Park Service Intermountain Region where he started his career in 2005. While earning his bachelor’s degree in American History from University of Northern Colorado, Smith worked as a seasonal Interpreter at Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument in Montana. Afterward he served as Lead Ranger for Interpretation at Bighorn Canyon NRA, Supervisory Park Ranger at San Antonio Missions NHP, and most recently as Education Specialist for Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. He has a strong background in partnerships with local, state, federal organizations and indigenous communities. Smith has spent his career supporting organizational inclusivity and meaningful cultural change.
Smith brings a balance of leadership, creativity and collaboration skills to the position. His proven ability to bring people together, build leadership in others, and find positive and creative solutions, in addition to being a strong career Interpreter, will ensure MPNHP continues to grow, strengthen and serve the American public through exceptional visitor experiences.
Joining Smith in Los Alamos will be his wife Helen, their toddler Gus and their two dogs. Helen is also a NPS employee, working remotely for the Midwest Regional Office. In their spare time they enjoy gardening, camping fishing, and chasing a two-year-old for sport.
