Man Arrested For Shoplifting Nearly $2,500 Of Alcohol

COURT News:

Philbert Lopez Jr., 34, of Espanola is facing an April 27 preliminary hearing on five counts of shoplifting totaling almost $2,500 comprised entirely of bottles of alcohol stolen from Smith’s Marketplace in Los Alamos and Smith’s in White Rock on five separate occasions in February.

The shoplifting incidents were discovered by Smith’s loss prevention staff while reviewing video surveillance, which showed Lopez placing the bottles in a reusable shopping bag and a grey messenger bag, then leaving the store without attempting to pay for the merchandise.

Los Alamos Police Cpl. Sheldon Simpson filed a complaint and statement Feb. 15 in Los Alamos Magistrate Court and Lopez appearedMarch 5 before Judge Pat Casados. Two of the charges are felonies and the other three are misdemeanors.
