Lunch with a Leader this month features The Family YMCA CEO Linda Daly at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 in Graves Hall at the United Church. Daly will discuss nonprofits and how they benefit the community.
Lunch with a Leader is a monthly event for the community provided by the League of Women Voters.
Daly was born in Sasebo, Japan and considers herself a military brat. She attended college at the University of Nebraska before transferring to the University of Hawaii where she graduated with a double major in Journalism and Communications. Her first job out of college was working as a copy writer at an ad agency. She eventually advanced to creative director before moving for three years to Japan. While her first husband completed his research and post-doc at the University of Tokyo, she taught English to one of Tokyo’s largest ad agencies as well as to managers of Bridgestone and Toyota.
Daly moved to Los Alamos in 1992 when she was hired as Community Education director at UNM-LA. She served on The Family YMCA Board of Directors for two years. In 1999, she was hired by the Y Board of Directors as its CEO.
She is a past president of the UNM-LA Advisory Board and Los Alamos Kiwanis Club. She is a graduate of Leadership Los Alamos and Leadership New Mexico. She serves on the Diversity and Inclusion Leadership Council for the YMCA of the USA and is past president of the Asian Pacific Islander Leadership Network for YUSA. She also chairs the New Mexico Alliance of YMCAs.
Daly is married to Dr. Paul Daly and an “empty-nester” with the luxury of spoiling her granddaughter. Soon she’ll have even more time to care for her mother and granddaughter when she steps down from the Y and her various Y duties at the end of October.
To purchase a $10 lunch from the Co+op, email Karyl Ann Armbruster at firstname.lastname@example.org or call her at 505.231.8286 to get the menu. The last day to contact her is by noon Monday, Oct. 15 to place a lunch order. Ordering lunch is not mandatory to attend the talk.
