Lunch With A Leader: Health Security Act Jan. 15

LWV News:
The League of Women Voters Lunch with a Leader is back at 11:45 a.m., Jan. 15, at Mesa Library. Tyler Taylor and Mary Feldblum will speak on the Health Security Act. This Act will be coming up during the Legislative session.
Taylor is a native of Birmingham, Ala. who grew up there during the Civil Rights era and learned first-hand about injustice. He and his daughter Maura Taylor (who is now executive director of Self-Help, Inc.) moved to Los Alamos in 2000. He worked here as a Primary Care Physician before retiring in December 2017.
His enthusiasm for passage of the Health Security Act comes from having seen, over 10-20 years, the increasing failure of the current system. It poorly serves a huge number of patients, is getting steadily more irrational, and is now quite demoralizing for most Providers.

Feldblum has a PhD. in Sociology with a minor in Economics. She is the former director of Hofstra University’s Institute of Applied Social Science, and she has worked as a consultant in a variety of areas including social policy research and negotiations training and mediation. Feldblum is fluent in Spanish and has lived in New Mexico since 1986.

She headed the New Mexico Health Care Project for Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports Magazine for 10 years. She serves as executive director of the Health Security for New Mexicans Campaign, a broad coalition of more than 160 organizations that support the Health Security Act, legislation that will enable New Mexico to set up its own comprehensive health plan.
