LWV News:

The Los Alamos League of Women Voters’ (LWV) community event, Lunch with a Leader, is noon to 1 p.m. Thursday June 15, via Zoom.

This month’s speaker is State Sen. Leo Jaramillo who was originally scheduled to speak in May but had to cancel. Sen. Jaramillo was elected in November 2020. He represents only Los Alamos, but said he works for all of Los Alamos County. He serves as vice chairman of the Rules Committee and is a member of the tax, business and transportation committees in the New Mexico Senate.

Sen. Jaramillo is a native son of the Española Valley and an alumnus of Española Valley High School. A sense of dedication to public service was instilled in him at a young age by his family, he said, adding that his passion for advocating for his community led him to an elected position on the Rio Arriba County Commission where he served as chairman of the board prior to being elected to the New Mexico State Senate.

On and off the Senate floor Sen. Jaramillo champions Northern New Mexico’s children, seniors, farmers, ranchers and individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.

Sen. Jaramillo earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from the University of New Mexico and went on to earn his master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Instructional Leadership from The College of Santa Fe. He is a former educator, news writer/producer, and financial business analyst.

Sen. Jaramillo serves as the Staff Operations Manager for the Associate Laboratory Director of Facilities and Operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory.
