Luján on President’s Visit to Argonne National Lab

U.S. CONGRESSIONAL News:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – New Mexico Congressman Ben Ray Luján, a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and Co-Chair of the Science and National Labs Caucus, released the following statement on President Obama’s visit to Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois.

“Over the past few years, the United States has made progress toward a cleaner energy future that is better for our economy, our environment, and our security. However, with gas prices continuing to squeeze families across the country and the growing impact of climate change, significant work remains to build on these critical efforts. President Obama’s blueprint recognizes that this must be a multipronged effort that focuses on a number of strategies including an increased commitment to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and natural gas. Investing in all of these areas has the potential to spur job creation while reducing our dependence on foreign oil and the impact of higher prices at the pump.

“I am pleased that President Obama chose to visit one of our national labs to discuss this important issue, recognizing that these hubs of research and development have the potential to be leaders in this effort. At Los Alamos National Laboratory, for example, scientists and researchers are working to develop commercially viable biofuel production systems from microalgae and new types of highly efficient solar cells and lighting systems that will result from advances being made in the phenomenon of quantum-dot blinking. These innovative projects are representative of the contributions and the impact that the national labs can have on a clean energy future.”
