U.S. CONGRESSIONAL News:

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today on the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks:

“Today our nation mourns for all those we lost during the terrorist attacks fourteen years ago. Though we continue to grieve over the horrific events of that day, we also remember how our nation responded through strength and resolve to remain united in spirit.

U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján

“We remember those who were directly affected by this tragedy – the loved ones who were lost, those who were injured, and those who became sick in the years following. We also honor the selfless first responders – firefighters, police, emergency workers – and the other brave individuals who risked, and even lost, their lives in their courageous efforts to save others.

“This solemn day is a reminder of their sacrifice and the importance of reauthorizing the James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act to ensure that the first responders who became sick as a result of their service in the aftermath of 9/11 receive the compensation they deserve.

“The strength of our nation lies in the spirit of unity that we showed after this tragedy. Let us come together today to remember the fallen, honor their memory, and reflect on the enduring spirit of our great nation.”
