From U.S. Rep. Ben Ray LujánIndependence Day is such an important holiday to me. Not only are we celebrating our nation’s 241st birthday, we are celebrating the ideals our nation was founded upon. We are celebrating freedom. We are celebrating liberty. We are celebrating our democracy.
Our democracy is what makes our nation so great. We the people get to decide the direction of our nation. We were the first nation founded on the ideas that power derives from the people, not its leaders. We must remember that we have the power to enact great change! That is what makes our nation so incredible is that YOU can help make a difference! All it takes is getting involved!
While we enjoy fireworks and BBQs, it is important to know that our freedom comes at a cost. The brave men and women in our armed forces fight every day to protect our freedom. Many have sacrificed so much to ensure our great nation remains free. I want to thank and honor all the men and women who have served our country for their bravery and courage.
Independence Day is such a fun holiday. We get to celebrate all that makes America great! I am looking forward to enjoying time with my friends and family, and I hope you too get to do the same!
