Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District met today with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Director Charles McMillan in Luján’s Washington office to discuss a number of issues regarding the lab, including funding for environmental cleanup.
Luján joined with Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich earlier this week to write to Congressional committees http://www.scribd.com/doc/140188928/LANL-Reprogramming-Request-Letter-May-6-2013 that are considering the White House’s request to reprogram $40 million to remove waste from LANL.
“Shifting these critical funds from other areas in the Department of Energy to environmental cleanup at LANL is an important step forward to meet the government’s commitment to remove waste from the lab,” Luján said. “I will continue to work closely with my colleagues on the committees to make sure they know how vital these funds are to prevent environmental cleanup work from stalling at LANL.”
McMillan is in Washington to appear before the Senate Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee.
