Los Alamos Xtreme Youth Football League (LAYFL) won the season ending championship game Oct. 30 clinching the victory over Pojoaque Crush in the 7-8 year old tackle football division in the Northern New Mexico Children’s Football League (NNMCFL) Zia Bowl in Santa Fe with a 20 – 0 victory. Los Alamos.
LA Xtreme won the regular season with a 7-1 record scoring 224 points against opponents, and only allowing 32 points. In the post season LA Xtreme clinched the Zia bowl in two games with a total offense of 27 points and allowing 0.
Honorary awards earned by LA Xtreme players are: League MVP went to Akim Leija (49) “quarter back / Line Backer” for outstanding offense and defense. His leadership, hardwork and talent easily earned this award. Zia Bowl player of the game went to Jordan Herrera (36) “quarter back / Corner Backer” for his outstanding offense and defense in the Championship. League Lineman of the year went to Brody Brothers (55) “Center” for a season of flawless snaps at the Center position.
LA Xtreme received nine nominations for All-Stars in the NNMCFL first annual All-Stars game held November 6th at Pojoaque High School. Those Nominations are: Akim Leija (49), Jordan Herrera (36), Frank Shepard (99), Elijah Campbell (22), Brody Brothers (55), Aden Garcia (75), Emmanuel Ortega (77), Tyler Jones (30), D’Angelo Lopez (2).
Los Alamos Division II will be heading to the State Tournament known as the High Desert Championship on Nov. 11 to compete against the best teams in the state in hopes of bringing home another trophy.
