Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service, Inc., (LAVNS) is hosting a presentation by Sherry Destromp and James Hogue on Hospice Services available in the community called, “Comfort Care”.

The hour-long event is 1 p.m. Monday, July 19 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center, 1101 Bathtub Row, and includes a question and answer period.

LAVNS Executive Director Wendi Wolfe, RN, LNCC, is coordinating the event and welcomes seniors, caregivers and loved ones to attend to learn about this “Comfort Care” program.

The biggest misconception is that once you go on hospice you just die, Wolfe said. This is incorrect, you have a greater quality of life and also may graduate out of hospice.

“We will go into a lot more detail on this,” she said. “Those in attendance can be informed of our services and what we offer and share that information with others in the community.”

Those interested may even decide to find out how to become a hospice volunteer, she said.

The LAVNS team will have handouts, brochures and other resources available at the event. Those unable to attend can call the senior center at 505.662.8920, to request information to pick up at a later time.

LAVNS is a not for profit Hospice and Home Health service that has been in the Community since 1973. LAVNS Is always available for community support and trainings.
