Los Alamos Tennis Club Defeats Sierra Vista TC To Advance To District Finals

The Los Alamos Tennis Club Men’s 3.5 40+ tennis team, captained by Joel Williams, defeated a tennis team from the Sierra Vista Tennis Club of Albuquerque in matches played Saturday at the Urban Park and  Mesa tennis courts by a team score of 4-1.  
 
The Los Alamos team swept all three doubles matches to secure the victory. John Charles and Donald Dry defeated a Sierra Vista team 6-4, 6-2. Bob Benjaman and Harry Majors defeated their opponents 6-0, 6-0, and Joel Williams and his partner Tom Kelly won 6-1, 7-5.
 
In the two singles matches, Todd Rodencal defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-3 and Shuh-Rong Chen retired after leading 6-4, 3-1 since Los Alamos had already secured the team victory.

The ’Los Alamos team advances to the Northern New Mexico District finals against a tennis team from the Highpoint Sports and Wellness Club in a match Sunday, Nov. 23 in Albuquerque. The winner of this match will be eligible to compete in the United States Tennis Association Southwest Sectional tournament to be held next spring in Phoenix, Ariz..
