Los Alamos Teachers and Students to be Recognized at Roundhouse

Los Alamos parents and community members are invited to the State Legislature Thursday, Jan. 30, Friday, Jan. 31 and Tuesday, Feb. 4 for events in the State Capital Roundhouse Rotunda that honor teachers and students from Los Alamos.

Los Alamos teachers of English Language Learners, along with bilingual teachers from around the state, will be recognized by the State Legislature for their work students with who are learning the English language.

As a special feature, Los Alamos Public Schools will be presented the 2014 Title III Incentive Award during Bilingual Day at the State Legislature. Los Alamos teachers will be recognized at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 in a special ceremony.

Nine Los Alamos teachers, who recently received National Board Certified Teacher status, will join with their National Board Certified Teacher peers from around the state at a ceremony that begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 in the Roundhouse. Representatives from the New Mexico National Board Certified Teachers Network will be present.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 in the Roundhouse Rotunda, Advanced Placement Los Alamos High School students and Advanced Placement teachers from Los Alamos will be presented the 2014 AP District Honor Roll Award. Los Alamos is the first school district in New Mexico history to receive this national award.

Dist 43 Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard and Senators Richard Martinez and Carlos Cisneros will be on hand to congratulate teachers and students. Gov. Susana Martinez and Sec. of Education Hanna Skandera also may attend this event.
