HILLTALKER/HAWKTALKER News:
The Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers and three members of the Los Alamos Middle School Hawktalkers traveled to compete in the State Speech and Debate Tournament March 6-8 in Santa Fe.
Team Results:
The LAHS Hilltalkers earned 2nd place in the State Tournament Debate Sweepstakes and 3rd in Overall Sweepstakes. (Albuquerque Academy placed 1st in Debate Sweepstakes and Overall Sweepstakes; East Mountain High School was 2nd in Overall Sweepstakes.)
Individual Results:
Public Forum: Emma Lathrop and Dakota Klasky went undefeated in preliminary rounds and broke to quarter finals.
In Novice Lincoln Douglas, Ben Reidys was state champion, and Grace Kim went undefeated in preliminary rounds and broke to quarter finals.
In Varsity Lincoln Douglas, Ali Berl and Katherine Wang were co-state champions; Rebecca Cai was a semi-finalist (3rd place), and Irene Gerrish was in quarter finals.
In Expository Speaking, Wilbur Wang placed 3rd overall and Mo Van de Sempel broke to semi-finals.
In Original Oratory, Ali Berl was 2nd overall and Irene Gerrish broke to semi-finals.
In Foreign Extemporaneous speaking, Sudeep Dasari broke to finals.
In Domestic Extemporaneous speaking, Ali Berl was 3rd overall.
In Humorous Interpretation, Mary Brug broke to semi-finals.
In Student Congress, Daniel Ahrens was 5th overall and Ali Berl was 4th overall.
Los Alamos Middle School Hawktalkers – all three competitors semi-finaled in their speech events.
