SPORTS News:

The members of Los Alamos Special Olympics would like to thank the community for their generosity and financial support that helped make participation possible for 100 percent of our athletes.

On Aug. 20-21, 14 athletes, four unified partners, two coaches and two chaperones from Los Alamos Special Olympics participated in the Four Corners Invitational in Farmington. On Friday, the golf team, coached by Jon Rau and Scott Rizor brought home two gold and two silver medals.

The swimmers took over on Saturday, coached by Leeanne Sanchez. As usual, they brought home a cache of gold, silver and bronze to increase the medal count to over 40!

Athletes will now begin practice for basketball and bowling, culminating in a statewide competition in Albuquerque this November.

Unfortunately, last week there was a story containing a large amount of inaccurate information submitted to the Los Alamos Daily Post that was published briefly. That story was not vetted by the local or state organization. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Questions regarding new athlete participation, volunteering or fundraising can be directed to Art Montoya at 505.672.9536 or Jon Rau at 505.661.1224. Questions can also be addressed to Executive Director Randy Mascorella of Special Olympics New Mexico at 505.856.0342. www.sonm.org.

Congratulations to the Los Alamos area athletes and thanks again for your support!
