The ninth annual Jemez Mountain Trail Runs were held Saturday, May 24 and included a half marathon of approximately 13.5 miles, a 50 kilometer run and a 50 mile run.
Except for the start along North Mesa Road at the Posse Lodge, all three courses utilize trails in the Jemez Mountains west of the Los Alamos townsite.
  • The winner of the men’s half marathon was Ryan Mcniff of Los Alamos in a time of 1:47:18.
  • The woman’s winner and fourth overall in the half marathon was Erica Baron of Los Alamos in a time of 1:57:02.
  • The men’s winner of the 50 kilometer run was Michael Darlow from Aspen, Colo., in a time of 4:47:41.
  • The women’s winner of the 50 kilometer race was Serena Eley of Albuquerque in a time of 6:20:49.
  • The winner of the men’s 50 mile race was Anton Krupicka of Boulder, Colo., in a record time for the course of 8 hours 7 minutes.
  • The women’s 50 mile was won by Diana Finkel from South Fork, Colo., in a fast time of 10 hours 24 minutes.
About 538 runners started the races, the most popular being the half marathon with 229 participants. Runners from 25 states and five foreign countries participated. Severe weather conditions along the upper part of the course in the early afternoon forced Race Director Tom Stockton to end the 50 mile race around 2:30 p.m. Nevertheless, about 20 of the 165 runners who started the race were able to finish before the race was halted.
