Los Alamos Radio Shack owner Bill Cabral is reopening his store at 999 Central Ave., Suite 150 Monday.
The store has been closed for the most part since Oct. 6 when Cabral experienced chest pains while at work and left for what he thought would be a couple of hours while he ran over to the hospital for a quick check up.
It turns out he was having a heart attack. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Santa Fe where further tests revealed three blockages to his heart. He was transported again by ambulance to the heart hospital in Albuquerque where he underwent surgery Oct. 11. During surgery, doctors discovered a fourth blockage, which led to his quadruple bypass operation.
Cabral was so concerned about getting his store reopened for his customers, he went above and beyond everything the doctors asked; leaving his bed to sit in a chair shortly after surgery, walking around not long after that; convincing them that he was in condition to be released.
He walked into the Los Alamos Daily Post newspaper office five days after surgery asking to let the community know he was back and would be opening his store soon. Cabral has continued gain strength in his recovery and has been going into his store to prepare for reopening it.
“I want to thank the community for their well wishes for my recovery and for their patience while we’ve had the store closed.” Cabral said. “I am happy to announce that my wife Mercy and I are reopening at regular hours starting Monday … we hope everyone will stop by and see us.”
