Los Alamos Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone
LAPD News:
Today, Chief of Police Dino Sgambellone released crime statistics for the first quarter of 2015, which were compiled by the Records Division of the Los Alamos Police Department.
Offenses reported as crime statistics are determined by the FBI Uniform Crime Report Program and are classified as crimes against persons (violent crime) and crimes against property. The offenses of murder (homicide), rape, robbery and aggravated assault make up the violent crime category. The offenses of arson, burglary, larceny, and auto theft make up the property crime category. Both of these categories combined are referred to as Part I Offenses.
During the first quarter of 2015, officers responded to a total of 46 overall Part 1 Offense complaints, which represents a 28 percent increase as compared to 36 offenses during the same period in 2014. Violent crime decreased from 11 offenses in 2014 to 4 in 2015, a 64 percent decrease. Property crime increased by 64 percent from 25 in 2014 to 42 in 2015.
Violent crime continues to decline. The rise in property crime in 2015 is a result of many factors, most notably thefts from local businesses. The Los Alamos Police Department will meet with any local business and recommend crime prevention strategies designed to limit exposer to theft and other criminal activity.
