Emily Mares-Lang, 73, of Los Alamos died Monday evening after being struck by a truck July 16 near the Los Alamos Post Office.

She had remained in critical condition at CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center since being hit while walking in the crosswalk on Main Street.

“The world will miss a beautiful person … that’s for sure,” Ed Lang said today, adding that arrangements are pending.

He said that he and Mares-Lang would have been married 24 years in September.

Mares-Lang was employed the last eight years at Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service working in the Medical Records Department.

“All of us here at Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service will miss her deeply,” Executive Director Georgina Williams said.

Chief Dino Sgambellone spoke of the loss of Mares-Lang during an interview today with the Los Alamos Daily Post.

“This is such a terrible tragedy … on behalf of the Los Alamos Police Department I just want to say that the hearts and thoughts of our entire department go out to the family, friends and co-workers,” Sgambellone said.

Police arrested Steven Fode, 25, of Santa Fe July 16 and charged him with reckless driving. Sgambellone said the District Attorney’s Office is re-evaluating the charges.
