Los Alamos Nonprofits Participate in Give Grande NM May 6

CFCNM News:

The Community Foundation Coalition of New Mexico is organizing Give Grande NM, a day of giving dedicated to supporting local causes. Give Grande NM is one of many giving days happening May 6 as part of the national Give Local America event.

May 6, donors will be able to donate directly to nonprofits working in their communities by visiting www.givegrandenm.org. A number of Los Alamos nonprofits are participating in the event.

“Together with communities across the country, we’re inviting everyone in Los Alamos to come together on a single day to designate gifts to organizations already doing important work in our community,” said Ted Vives, artistic director of the Los Alamos Community Winds.

The Winds is one of the Los Alamos nonprofits participating in Give Grande New Mexico.

“In a partnership between the Coalition of Community Foundations in New Mexico and local nonprofits, hundreds, if not thousands of donors from every neighborhood in our community will come together on a single day to raise significant funds for local needs,” Vives said.

Visitors to the site also will be able to search for nonprofits by name, city, geographic area and cause and see in real-time what is raised across the state and for each nonprofit.

“Together we will send a message to the people of New Mexico. Giving is good! Working together will make our state a better place,” said Randy Royster, executive director of the Albuquerque Community Foundation

Because Give Grande NM is one of many giving days being held across the country, it is likely to be part of the largest online fundraising event in history. Gov. Susana Martinez has declared May 6 “Give Grande NM, New Mexico’s First Day of Statewide Giving.”

The Community Foundation Coalition is partnering with 345 nonprofits across the state to meet needs and connect people in the community with the causes they care about.

The Coalition consists of the Albuquerque, Taos, Santa Fe and New Mexico Community Foundations, as well as the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico.

“Give Grande New Mexico is an opportunity to highlight the culture of giving that has been a part of our state’s identity for hundreds of years,” said Brian T. Byrnes, president and CEO of Santa Fe Community Foundation. “It’s a chance to show that everyone can be a philanthropist and that if we all pitch in together we can make a huge impact. Nonprofits are crucial to the health and well-being of our population and a critical part of our economy. Give Grande will generate even greater support for their important work. Every dollar will go further if you give on May 6.”

The Coalition is encouraging everyone in the community to be a philanthropist.

“A lot of people think you have to be rich to give back, but even the smallest donation can make a big difference to nonprofits,” said Denise Gonzales, Give Grande NM coordinator. “Give Grande NM is designed to make it easy for donors to connect with nonprofits via a secure and simple website.”
