LAPS News:

Los Alamos Middle School celebrated 93 students last week at its Student of the Semester breakfast honoring outstanding 7th and 8th graders.

Student of the Semester has been a tradition at the middle school and continues to be a way for teachers and staff to recognize students who not only excel academically, but also show impressive integrity and character.

There are three HAWK (Healthy Atmosphere Where Everyone Succeeds) teams for each grade at LAMS, and students are nominated by their team leaders. The team leaders look for students who stand out because of their academic performance, citizenship and overall behavior in the classroom.

To recognize the selected students, a celebratory breakfast was held Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 for the nominees and their families.

According to Jill Gross, LAMS teacher and coordinator for this event, there was an outstanding turnout both mornings. Gross noted that many students and parents were honored to be nominated by their grade level team.

The next Student of the Semester breakfast will occur in May for both 7th and 8th grade.
