Los Alamos Medical Center Upgrades Diagnostic Imaging Services

LAMC News:

Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) entered into a partnership with X-Ray Associates of New Mexico (XRANM) in early April to provide diagnostic imaging interpretive services and specialty procedures.

XRANM is one of the largest radiology professional groups in New Mexico with a history of providing quality service for more than 60 years. XRANM employs 24 subspecialized radiologists who provide access to the highest quality diagnostic imaging and interpretation.

The radiologists’ subspecialties include neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, women’s imaging, musculoskeletal radiology, and interventional radiology. As part of LAMC’s efforts to expand services, both partners have invested in technology interfaces and internet upgrades, including a fiber optic transmission line.

X-Ray Associates has secured a permanent on-site radiologist for Los Alamos, Dr. Melanie Pickering. Dr. Pickering is now completing a womens’ imaging fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., and will be joining LAMC at the beginning of August. Dr. Pickering is originally from New Mexico, growing up in Albuquerque and Tularosa. Her education and training was at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and Texas Tech University Health Science Center in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Pickering also served in the United States Navy. She and her husband are looking forward to relocating to Los Alamos. Until Dr. Pickering arrives, on-site services will be provided by XRANM staff radiologists.

The change to XRANM was done with LAMC medical staff approval and endorsement in their quest to provide the residents of Los Alamos with the best and most up-to-date radiology services. Recently, patients may have received letters or seen advertisement indicating that LAMC is no longer providing certain services, such as mammography. This is not true. With the contract with X-Ray Associates and recent system upgrades, LAMC has significantly expanded their imaging services.

Those interested in scheduling imaging services can do so by calling 505.881.9211.
