Los Alamos Medical Center Issues Statement on Doctor’s Arrest

Pavel V. Mourachov

Staff Report:

Los Alamos Medical Center has issued the following statement regarding Wednesday’s arrest of Los Alamos Urologist Pavel V. Mourachov:

“We share our community’s concerns about Dr. Mourachov’s arrest and the allegations that continue to come to light. Dr. Mourachov is not an employee of Los Alamos Medical Center and has had a limited practice at our hospital for some time. His medical privileges have been suspended. As the claims against Dr. Mourachov relate to his personal life and there is no evidence that any illegal activity occurred at our hospital, we are unable to provide further perspective on this situation. We will cooperate with authorities in their investigation. Because this is a law enforcement matter, we must direct inquiries regarding this matter to them.”

According to police documents, Mourachov, 41, was arrested at approximately 2:15 p.m. Wednesday in the LAMC parking lot by Los Alamos police. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a household member with a deadly weapon, extreme cruelty to animals and harassment.

The criminal complaint indicates that Mourachov assaulted or struck at his spouse with an ax and a pistol. The harassment charges stem from neighbors who reported Mourachov slashed tires on their vehicle as well as other malicious behaviors. The extreme cruelty to animals charge is related to Mourachov reportedly shooting his family’s black cat with an arrow and placing it in a neighbor’s yard.

Police found the cat alive and rushed it to a local veterinary clinic where it died on the operating table.

Mourachov is being held without bond in the Los Alamos County Detention Center pending a hearing.
