Police arrested Henry Wilton June 19 in Los Alamos on an outstanding warrant from Espanola Magistrate Court on an open count of murder in the first degree.
Wilton, 48, is a maintenance worker at Los Alamos Public Schools who lives in Espanola. He was initially charged with aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, false imprisonment and now murder after reportedly beating his 41-year-old girlfriend who lapsed into a coma and died Monday.
“I am knowledgeable of this arrest and monitoring the situation,” LAPS Superintendent Gene Schmidt told the Los Alamos Daily Post. “Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family.”
LAPS Assistant Superintendent Gerry Washburn also spoke to the Post saying, “Henry Wilton is a longtime employee of the school district … we can’t say anything more as this is a personnel issue.”
