Los Alamos Main Street News:
Los Alamos Main Street has been designated as an accredited Main Street America™ program in 2018 for meeting rigorous performance standards set by the National Main Street Center.
Each year, the National Main Street Center, and its Coordinating Program partners, announce the list of accredited Main Street America programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach.
“We are thrilled to honor this year’s 829 nationally accredited Main Street America programs for their commitment to economic development,” said Patrice Frey, President & CEO of the National Main Street Center. “The power of Main Street shines across the country through these vibrant communities, who have all worked to generate impressive economic returns, preserve community character and celebrate local history.”
Los Alamos Main Street (LAMS) is dedicated to the promotion and revitalization of downtown Los Alamos and focuses on its connection to history and science through events and by supporting businesses that provide a special place to gather, relax and enjoy the community.
By collaborating with local businesses and community leaders, LAMS produces the Los Alamos ScienceFest, Fair and Rodeo Parade, Trick-or-Treat on MainStreet and the WinterFest Parade. It also oversees the Creative District and projectY cowork Los Alamos.
To earn the annual accreditation, Los Alamos Main Street must meet ten performance standards, and is evaluated by the New Mexico Main Street Program and the National Main Street Center.
The performance evaluation is based on criteria that focuses on the communities that are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and includes standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress and actively preserving historic buildings.
“Congratulations to all the MainStreet communities in our state who have received 2018 National Accreditation.” said New Mexico Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Matt
Geisel. “The work of these organizations improves their local communities and supports the economic growth.”
