Visitors are encouraged to join the Manhattan Project National Historical Park for a somber quiet luminaria (farolitos) viewing, 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6 at Ashley Pond Park.

This introspective experience focuses on providing visitors the opportunity to walk the lighted path in silence and have their own reflective experience based on their personal reasons for participating.

More Commemoration Events

For those unable to attend the August event in person, a virtual bell ringing is available from 6 a.m. EDT on Aug. 6 through midnight PDT on Aug. 9. The International Friendship Bell is a symbol of unity and will carry the message of peace and international friendship into the future.

On Aug. 6, Manhattan Project National Historical Park Oak Ridge Unit invites the public to ring the International Friendship Bell the number of years since the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

As part of the Days of Peace and Remembrance, the park solicits Messages of Peace from the public in advance of the August commemoration events. To participate, visit the Manhattan Project National Historical Park Visitor Center on 20th Street in Los Alamos.
