Central Avenue and 15th Street will experience a 20-minute road closure to two-way traffic 10:30-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, to accommodate The Family YMCA’s annual Independence Day Children’s Parade.
The road will be blocked from the Justice Center Parking lot easterly to 15th Street and on 15th Street northward from Central to Iris to the Y’s driveway entrance.
The parade is open to children, families and pets (animals must be on leash, friendly and picked-up after) who want to dress in red, white and blue and show their patriotic spirit.
Families should line up at the “elephant” sculpture at Ashley Pond Park at 10:15 a.m. for the parade that starts at 10:30 a.m. Members of the American Legion Post 90 will award two $25-savings bond to the most patriotic child and pet/owner.
At the end of the parade, American Legion representatives will hold a flag ceremony and lead participates in the pledge of allegiance, then serve up hot dogs and watermelon in the Y parking lot. The Y also will provide small toy gifts to parade participants for the Nation’s 242nd birthday party.
