BUSINESS News:

The Los History Museum’s gift shop started out as just a simple money making endeavor.

Museum Shop Manager Todd Nichols said the Los Alamos History Museum opened in1968 with the Museum Gift Shop opened in 1969.

He said, “The idea for the Museum Shop was born at an early historical society board meeting, May 1969 when it was decided that selling notepaper made from a Laura Gilpin photograph of the Ranch School would be a simple money making endeavor. It was successful and led to more items; postcards, books, stationery, maps.”

Nichols said the museum and gift shop strive to give visitors a great experience.

“The Los Alamos History Museum offers visitors a fun, fact filled experience walking through our history beginning about 1,000 years ago. We have a wonderful museum campus where visitors are welcome to walk the grounds, experience Ranch School buildings, view exhibits and images from the Manhattan Project, and tour the Cold War Gallery inside one of the historic Ranch School master cottages,” he said.

“The Museum Shop offers visitors a grand selection of historical books, gifts, apparel, and postcards creating a historical memory of their visit.”
Nichols added it’s work the museum staff love to provide.

“Our community is built of wonderful, smart, generous people. I enjoy each conversation, each personal story from the members of our community. We are history and enjoy the opportunities to share our history with the world,” he said.

The museum has had several landmark moments of its own. Nichols noted the museum went through a major remodel from the ground up in the last two years.

“As of Dec 30, 2016 we have been fully operational sharing our history through thought provoking exhibits allowing the visitors to experience our history also,” he said.

For Small Business Saturday on Nov. 25, the gift shop is offering 10 percent discounts on all merchandise when a visitor/shopper mentions Small Business Saturday to our docent on duty.
