The LAHS girls golf team won the district 2-4A championship Monday but it was more than a win, they beat the district qualifying target score by 35 shots!
Here’s how it went down:
1. Emma Haines 84 1st team all-district district medalist champion
2. Jennifer Necker 86 1st team all-district 2nd place medalist
3. Faith Koh 91 1st team all-district 3rd place medalist
4. Emily Johnson 96 1st team all district 5th place medalist
5. Bri Sanderson 98
6. Mal Apgar 104
Team Score 357 / Target score was 392.
It looks like we are peeking at just the right time. We’ve had four tournament wins in a row and our scores have been coming down. We set a goal to break 360 today and did it … that was absolutely amazing to be a part of.
There will be some tough competition showing up at UNM South next week for state and we know what we have to do. I like our chances of having a trophy round next Monday and Tuesday. This is not our first rodeo by any means but the focus is there, the goals are set and the competitive spirit is alive and well. These girls and digging in hard and really dialing up the shots when they need to. They are really keeping their heads in the game, playing smart and managing their shots well. It’s so cool to watch … they get it, they know how to win, they believe in themselves and they have confidence.
Today was just what we needed to set the tone as we head into the big dance. I’m so proud of these girls. They mean so much to me and we’ve really become like a second family to one another. No matter what the outcome at state, these girls are winners … but I like our chances!
