Los Alamos High Flyers Gymnasts Compete at State Championships

Seventeen Los Alamos High Flyers gymnasts competed in the Level 2 & 3 New Mexico State Championships last weekend in Albuquerque. The girls competed by age division in vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise, and in the all-around (combined score).

In individual events, Kylie Johnson won the state championship title on uneven bars, placing first in her age division with a score of 9.175. She also placed fourth in both vault and floor exercise.

In a separate age division, Bailee Nasise placed second in uneven bars with a score of 9.4.

Siena Rolfe and Hailey McDowell also both received silver event medals: McDowell placed second in vault with a score of 9.15. Rolfe placed second in balance beam with a score of 8.75, and also took home the bronze medal on both uneven bars and floor exercise.

Other bronze medal event finishers included Sarah Worley (balance beam), Gianna Benelli (vault) and Norissa Valdez (balance beam).

In the all-around competition, Rolfe was awarded the silver medal in her age division with a combined score of 34.575. Bella Aguilar Garcia received the bronze all-around medal in her age division, also with a score of 34.575. Johnson and Worley were fourth.

Other High Flyers gymnasts placed between 5th and 10th in the all-around standings. Complete results are posted on the High Flyers website at www.lahighflyers.com.

The state championship meet is the final competitive event of the year for the girls. More than 250 gymnasts representing 21 New Mexico teams competed in the event.
