LAPS News:

Members of Girl Scout Troop 116 are Rocketeers! The scouts, comprised of Los Alamos sixth grade students and one home school, are advised by Ryn Herrmann and Nan Holmes.

The scouts met with elementary school principals to invite school teachers and next year’s sixth grade and middle school student to participate in building 206 rockets that will be launched later this fall as part of an event called RocketFest. Each troop member built a rocket as part of their Silver Award Project.

The 206 rockets celebrate the number of rockets launched into space that carried instruments built by Los Alamos National Laboratory. RocketFest is a partnership of Troop 116, the local chapter of the National Association of Rocketry, the Zia Spacemodelers, the Kiwanis Club and Los Alamos County.

The scouts stated the rocket kits are free of charge and that they were very excited to be involved in RocketFest.
