After a very successful 2017 season which, saw the largest number of registered players to date at more than 500 athletes, the Los Alamos Little League is expecting to surpass those numbers and build upon its own brand during the 2018 season.
Registration is now open for Little League Baseball and Softball, and sign-ups will run through March 9. Early registration is encouraged to make sure enough uniforms and equipment are ordered for the upcoming season. You can register at www.lalittleleague.org.
The cost of registration is $75 for the season with a $10 discount for additional siblings. Continuing with a very successful program from the 2017 season, any child who will be playing in little league for the first time will be admitted to the league for free to encourage participation in baseball and softball. Need-based scholarships are also available. More information can be found on the Los Alamos County Little League website.
For baseball, the levels of play will include T-Ball to Majors for ages 4-12, and Softball will go up to age 16.
Opening ceremonies for the Los Alamos Little League will be April 28. Last season, thousands of dollars of prizes were given away, including baseball and softball equipment such as batting gloves, bags, and bats all the way to bicycles for different age groups.
Tryouts for Minors A baseball as well as Majors baseball and softball will be March 17, 21 and 22. Players only have to attend one date.
New for the 2018 season, teams will still have a hat that represents a Major League Baseball team, but this year’s performance jersey will have the Los Alamos County Little League logo on the front. The problem that LALL is facing is they don’t currently have a logo.
“We’re putting it out there to all the kids in the community, whether they play ball or not, to submit a logo for the logo contest,” league President James Chrobocinski announced this week. “There will be prizes for everyone who submits something and a grand prize for the logo that is selected as our new logo.”
“The earlier you sign up, the better we can plan for our season and the better experience we can give to our kids,” Chrobocinski added.
