LIBRARY News:
Welcome to the first in a series of stories outlining tips and tricks for using the new Library catalog.
“Zero searching” – what’s that?
With the new catalog you can simply click on Search, without entering anything in the search box, and get a list of every single item in the library – all 149,354 of them! I can’t think of a single reason why anyone would want to look through a list this long but when you apply some of the search limits located to the left of the screen you get useful results.
As an example, do a “zero search” and then under Collection click Biography and then Include and you come up with a list of all of the items in our Biography collections. Further refine your selections by choosing an audience, adult, teen, or juvenile, and you begin to see how zero searching can help.
You can also use “zero search” to get lists of every audiobook, book, large print book, magazine, music, or video that the library owns. In the drop down menu next to the Home icon in the box that usually says Everything click on Magazines then click on Search. You will get a list of every magazine in the library.
If you are struggling with the new catalog we are happy to help. Just ask at any of the service desks or call 505.662.8253 to schedule a longer, in depth training session.
