COUNTY News:
The Los Alamos County Library Board heard a presentation by Russell Naranjo and Sara Rhoton about a project to replace the siding and seal cracks at Mesa Public Library. This project is part of regular building maintenance and renewal.
The original siding of Mesa Public Library, built in 1994, was replaced in 2011. Harsh ultraviolet rays damage wood, masonry, and concrete surfaces over time, as demonstrated in the first image, showing the original siding in 1994, compared to the second image, showing the current siding condition. One aim of this project is to return to the original siding color (or as close as possible).
Cracks have also appeared in the concrete masonry unit wall veneer. A structural engineer’s review of these cracks determined no structural problems but recommended that the cracks be maintained with caulking to ensure that water does not infiltrate the area.
The proposed project schedule is to begin construction in October 2024 with completion in December 2024; however, the completion date is dependent on availability of the siding and may be delayed to the Spring. The public can expect occasional parking and entrance disruptions during construction.
