COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Public Works Department will close the ice rink parking lot at 4 p.m. Tuesday through 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 to install a temporary chiller. This is a slight logistic change from the Oct. 16 date the department reported last week.

Additionally, an oversized load carrying a crane and equipment for this project is scheduled for Wednesday morning that could slow traffic on N.M. 502 and Trinity Drive.

The temporary chiller repair will ensure optimal ice temperatures throughout the skating season from November through February until the department can conduct a permanent repair. The closure of the parking lot is to accommodate a large crane and equipment and allow crews to maneuver the chiller safely.

Semi-trucks transporting the crane and the chiller to the rink are expected sometime on the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 18, on N.M. 502 (Anderson Overlook) to Trinity Drive, Diamond and West Road. Work should conclude that same day in the afternoon, and the semi-trucks will leave on the same route as they came.

Motorists are advised to observe caution on Wednesday. Some traffic delays may occur on the stated route. Vehicles driving along West Road are asked to pay special attention to semi-trucks entering and leaving the ice rink parking lot.

Department staff thanks motorists for their patience as this important work takes place.
