Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of National Senior Health and Fitness Day Wednesday, May 30 by participating in many great activities and programs in Los Alamos and White Rock promoting “Active Today…Healthier Tomorrow.”
Los Alamos County is partnering with many community agencies to showcase “A Snapshot of an Average Day in Los Alamos”, which highlights the multiple physical and mental activities available throughout the community. Look for the blue and red National Senior Health and Fitness Day balloons at Mesa Public and White Rock Branch Libraries, the Walkup Aquatic Center, the YMCA and YMCA Express, the Los Alamos County Golf Course, Aspen Ridge Lodge and Sombrillo Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Complimentary classes for seniors ages 60 and over: The YMCA is offering Gentle Yoga, Zumba Gold and the Silver Sneakers program for members and non-members; and try one or all the water fitness classes at the Walkup Aquatic Center. Try mini-golf or a game of golf at discounted rates: Rent-1-Set and get 1-Set FREE putters and golf balls for the Mini Golf Course at East Park at the Walkup Aquatic Center, and enjoy 50 percent off 18-holes, 9-holes, or the Driving Range at the Los Alamos Golf Course.
During lunch the Betty Ehart and White Rock Senior Centers will be hosting complimentary blood pressure checks, brain health music trivia and healthy brain snacks 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. provided by the Los Alamos Visiting Nurses, Comfort Keepers, and Home Instead Senior Care. Both centers will have information about the programming and activities available including music and fitness classes, walking groups, and many more programs to help promote healthy activities.
