Los Alamos County Comprehensive Plan: Second And Final Random Sample Survey

ARC News:

Architectural Research Consultants (ARC) is conducting the second and final comprehensive plan survey on behalf of Los Alamos County.

Surveys will be sent out to 3,000 random addresses in the County late this week. Recipients of the survey are asked to complete the survey on-line or fill out the paper survey by Friday, Sept. 9.

The purpose of this survey is to gauge the level of support for draft goals and policies that will guide future development of the County. The information gathered through the survey will be used as part of the input in developing the comprehensive plan.

The County Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) will be conducting meetings on the draft comprehensive plan Sept. 14 and 28. These meetings are part of “Round Three” of the planning process, culminating in County Council’s consideration of adoption of the plan. P&Z will utilize information received from the surveys to change or refine the draft goals, policies and strategies for the draft plan.

Los Alamos County Comprehensive Plan update quick facts:

The comprehensive plan is an official public document adopted by the Los Alamos County Council as a policy guide to decisions about the physical development of the community over the ensuing 20 to 30 years.

The current county plan was developed in 1987. Subsequently, the County adopted a vision statement and policy plan in 2004 and various plan elements, but did not adopt a unified plan. County Council gave direction in 2015 to create a new comprehensive plan as a high-level policy document to guide future development of the County.

In February 2016, the Council adopted the 2016 Strategic Leadership Plan, providing more specific and focused goals, some of which pertain to the comprehensive plan. The schedule for completion of the new plan update is December 2016.
