Los Alamos Co+op Market Celebrates National Co-op Month

CO+OP News:

October is National Co-op Month. The Los Alamos Co+op market takes this opportunity to reward its members with great sales and educational opportunities.

The Los Alamos Co+op Market members can enjoy extra savings month with two discount days (5 percent on the 5th & 10 percent on the 10th). Join, renew or upgrade your membership during the month of October and receive a goodie bag valued at $15. Stop by 3-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 when the rockin’ sounds of the Kakistocrats fill the café.

The Co+op is a community-owned business where the public is welcome to shop. Membership is open to anyone. In the cooperative business model members of a co-op own the co-op as opposed to shareholders of a corporation. Co+op members as owners (1) can vote for the Board of Directors, (2) access member-only sales, (3) and receive patronage dividends when the Co+op is profitable (expected to occur in 2015). Memberships help build equity, which gave the Co+op funds to open in 2011 without a bank funded loan.

Cooperatives come in many shapes and sizes. During the month of October, please “Keep It Co-op” and support your local co-ops. Los Alamos is home to the following co-ops in addition to the Los Alamos Co+op Market—Del Norte Credit Union, Little Forest Play School, Los Alamos Beer Co-op, Los Alamos Public Schools Credit Union, and Zia Credit Union.

The Los Alamos Co+op Market is located at 95 Entrada Dr., next to the Holiday Inn Express. The Co+op is successful when it reflects the values of the community through the Co+op’s products and services. Visit losalamos.coop for more information or find the Co+op on Facebook for updates.
