The Los Alamos Choral Society (LACS) will give its spring concert, “Heroes, Explorers and Dreamers,” at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 25 at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road in Los Alamos. Admission is $15 for adults and free for children and students. Tickets are available at CB FOX and at the door.

Mary Badarak will conduct, with Diane Chan, assistant conductor, Cindy Little, accompanist, and rehearsal assistance from Jason Rutledge. There will be an oboe solo by Anne Marie Peeters Weem.

The program will feature a great variety of shorter choral works, from classical through popular, touching on a variety of themes, from the joy appropriate to the spring season to remembrance of the fallen as Memorial Day approaches. European classics by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Brahms will share the stage with modern favorites from the Muppets movies. American and regional composers are another focus.

Arrangements of Copland’s adaptations of American traditional songs will be heard, as will works by Colorado and New Mexico composers including Los Alamos composer Frances Meier’s setting of John McCrae’s In Flanders Fields, and LACS music director Mary Badarak’s setting of the final portion of T.S. Eliot’s 1943 poem Four Quartets.
