SPORTS News:

Los a Alamos Atomic Tumblers traveled to Eagle Ridge Gymnastics March 22-23 to compete in the men’s New Mexico State Gymnastics Championships.

Daniel Fryer competed in the level 6 session. Fryer, once again, for his third consecutive year has qualified to the Region 9 Championships. This is his third year competing in USA men’s gymnastics and his third level of accomplishment.

In the 2012-13 season, Fryer won the New Mexico State Championships for his age division in level 4 and qualified to Regionals in Albuquerque that year. In the 2013-14 season, he again won the New Mexico State Championships in his age division but this time in level 5, and again qualified to the regional Championships in Sal Lake City.

This year he moved up to level 6 and again qualified to Regionals in Colorado Springs at the Men’s Olympic Training Center. He is finding level 6, a fairly advanced level of gymnastics to be quite a bit more of a challenge. At the state championships this year, Fryer’s high finish was a bronze on vault with a 10.10 (receiving some bonus points as are allowed in men’s gymnastics). He finished seventh all-around as the final qualifier to regionals in his division. He looks forward to competing at level 6 again next year and competing all of the bonus on each event.

Troy Makela and Kyle Hatler competed in the level 5 session. This was Makela’s second year of competition as he competed level 4 last year. He took a bronze on high bar with a 9.80 and finished11th in his age division.

Hatler was a first year competitor, starting gymnastics this year. He competed one meet as a level 4 and qualified immediately to level 5. Hatler qualified to the state championships and finished 14th in his age division.
