AQUATOMICS News:
Ming-Yuan Lo, 8, of the Los Alamos Aquatomics set a New Mexico State record in the 100 yard butterfly Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Lobo Holiday Classic swimming meet in Albuquerque.
Lo’s time of 1:17.21 shattered the previous record of 1:23.75 set by James Zamora in February 2009. Lo’s feat was particularly remarkable as his record came while he was swimming the event for the first time. His time places him in the top 20 in the United States for his age this year.
The record was Lo’s second state mark. He also was a member of the Aquatomics’s state record setting 8 and Under 100 freestyle relay in October 2012. He is a third grader at Aspen Elementary School.  Lo also is a National top 100-ranked chess player for his age.
Lo is coached by Aquatomics’ Head Coach John Murphy and Assistant Coach Maribeth Englert.
Founded in 1963, the Los Alamos Aquatomics is celebrating 50 years of swimming this year.
