Los Alamos Retirement Community celebrated the retirement of longtime nurse Anita Maes at a party June 30.

LARC board members and Sombrillo staff gathered together to wish her a happy retirement and thank her for her hard work. Maes began her career as an LPN in November of 1972. She has been working at Sombrillo Nursing and Rehab since April 15, 1994.

As a dedicated, hardworking nurse, she epitomized the Practical Nurse Pledge: “May my life be devoted to service and to the high ideals of the nursing profession.” Through that dedication, Maes earned the trust of her residents and the appreciation of her co-workers.

Her ethic is reflected in the fact that through all those 21 years at Sombrillo, she never missed a scheduled shift—including her night shift on June 30, 2015, her very last day at work. On that day, true to her work ethic Maes enjoyed the party but was eager to fill her last shift.

She will be missed.
