Lockout Lifted At Aspen Elementary School

LAPS News:

Based upon advice from the Los Alamos Police Department, the Lockout has been lifted at Aspen Elementary School in Los Alamos.

Staff and police remain vigilant and on a cautionary alert.

Here is what we know about the situation:

  • A community member called this morning saying they saw a young man near Aspen with a rifle; we are not sure if it was a toy or a real weapon;
  • Out of an abundance of caution, LAPD recommended that Aspen go to Lockout; LAPS followed their advice;
  • Classes and learning at Aspen proceeded on a normal schedule;
  • Because of training, Principal Kathryn Vandenkieboom and staff knew how to handle the situation;
  • At no time were students or staff in harm’s way; and
  • The Lockout was lifted at about 10:37 a.m. today.
